I've been thinking about why I started blogging, lately, and how I just kind of jumped in, over my head, and started paddling around, not really knowing what I was doing. And, maybe this sounds weird, but I think that's exactly the way it should be! So, today, I wanted to cover some tips for anyone who may be considering starting a blog or a business, or just doing something new that they might feel paralyzed to start, at first.
1. Just jump! My first tip for starting your endeavor is just to start. When I first started this blog, I knew I wanted to create beautiful and unique fashion content, but beyond that, I didn't have much planned out. I just got on blogger one day, with my passion and a pipe dream, and created my site. It looked awful for a while, with a url that had "blogspot" at the end, and everything. I didn't spend any money on anything towards my blog until I felt like I was really enjoying myself, and that spending money on my hobby was worth it to me. Boy, did I start enjoying myself! I'm thinking and daydreaming about ideas and inspiration for my blog, all the time!
2. Improve as you go, but don't expect over-night success. I blog because I LOVE it! I absolutely love getting to share my passion and creativity and outfits with you guys. But, if I blogged because I wanted to be an over-night sensation in the blogging world, I would have quit a long time ago. I don't have the most expensive photography equipment, or the biggest budget in the world to spend on my clothes and equipment and website. What I DO have, is drive! We spend a little money here and there to improve this blog as we go, and I'm so proud of the progress I've made over the past few months, (and excited to see what the future holds for Jessicabroyles.com!).
3. Don't forget about your blog. It can be easy to lose focus and put more stock in your instagram followers, than your actual blog. I just want to encourage you to remember your blog is the number one platform you should consider. Social Media fluctuates through the years. Instagram might be number one right now, but there may be a whole new platform in a few years that overtakes it. Your blog is king. It's not going anywhere, and it should be your ultimate focus.
4. Work hard. Not a day goes by where I'm not planning something for the blog, or writing for the blog, editing pictures for the blog, taking pictures for the blog, shopping for outfits for the blog. You get the idea! It's so important to me, and I'm constantly working on it. If you read that, and you think you might not have the passion to do that day-in and day-out, you might want to reconsider your undertaking.
5. Blog consistently. Your readers should be able to expect content at consistent times, each week. That, along with working to improve the quality of your content, is what will keep them coming back for more.
6. Don't be afraid to try new things. Whether it be a new fashion trend, or a different blog theme, or a color you're not used to... Just try out different ideas and get inspired! The blogging world is quite saturated these days, and readers are looking for unique content. Don't be afraid to be the one to provide that.
7. Assess and Reassess. I think it's important to consider if you're enjoying yourself. Maybe you should try different approaches to blogging, if not. I believe that with anything, it's important to assess how happy it's making you. If your happiness is not improved, is this worth it?
8. Believe in yourself. I don't think this one can be overstated. Believing that you're good enough, you have the talent and the work ethic, the right content, and the know-how, will get you so far, in everything you try to accomplish. Just believing in yourself is sometimes the key to becoming truly great at something, versus just being mediocre.
I hope these tips are helpful, if you're considering starting a blog, or even if you have already started a blog, but are looking for more direction. Fashion blogging or any kind of blogging can be such a fun outlet and hobby, and I encourage you to start where you are, today!

DeleteHello Jessica!
ReplyDeleteI started my blog as a therapy for a psychiatric problem that I had, with it I improved my self-esteem, I got to know myself better, and now it's a real passion.
They are good tips, it is not all easy, it is necessary to work, sooner or later the recognition appears.
You're always fantastic, this shirt is beautiful !!!

I have a similar story. I started blogging before having kids, but once our babies came along, I thought I had no time. Little did I realize how therapeutic it would be for me! This blog brings me so much joy!
DeleteLovely tips dear, and I couldn't agree more, especially on number 6. Indeed, trends change and though you don't necessary need to hop into the bandwagon every season, it's nice to spice things up a little bit from time to time and try new things to diversify your style.
