Sometimes, little details of an outfit are the best parts. With this outfit, I love the look as a whole, but I also love the details of the look - lace trim on a tulle skirt, so pretty! And, I love the way you can hold this clutch by putting your hand through the bow. I love how my earrings bring the color of the skirt and bag to life, even more. Those little details are what I feel really make this outfit stand out. So what is the key to creating an outfit with details that really pop off the pages of your blog or catch someone's eye when they're scrolling through instagram?
1. Texture. This is my favorite detail to include in an outfit. Different textures really create visual interest in an outfit that draws in the eye. That's what often times catches my gaze when I'm scrolling through a sea of instagram posts that all look pretty similar. My favorite textures to include at the moment are feathers, lace, and satin.
2. Color. There's definitely a place for neutral outfits, but I find colors to be so much more fun and eye-catching. In this outfit, I stayed in one color scheme, but I also like to pick two or three colors in an outfit and really play those up.
3. Whimsy. This one is a bit abstract, yes, but I can't talk about the details that make an outfit stand out with mentioning adding a touch of whimsy. I blame Gilmore Girls for my affinity for avant-garde style. Not that they wear enormous ruffles on that show, but they definitely tout being stylish and whimsical. I like to add whimsy in the form of a giant ruffle on my shoulder, or a tulle skirt, or more sequins than are really necessary on a top, and definitely in the form of bows and lace, everywhere. As you guys know, I'm not one to take fashion too seriously. I LOVE it, and that's why I think it should be so fun!
If you try including texture, color, and whimsy in your next outfit, let me know! I'd love to see the beautiful look you create! As always, thank you so much for reading! I appreciate you guys so so much!

You are the best at adding in whimsey to your outfits, Jessica!! You have such a feminine and lovely style!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!!
So you're talking to a "fix it" girl here. I'm the one that always try to make the "bad" purchases work somehow. Maybe because I hate to waste money. Like the shirt that you feel is too short---I have lace shirt extender for that. And the one that's too low? I have a bunch of camis for those (although I have sewn together that area too).
Now buying the same thing is something my mom does ALL THE TIME!! Seriously, she has more than 5 gold collar necklaces and when I tell her she should get rid of one (or two or three), she always says that they are all just a little different (needless to say she's a collector and I'm not as much). So I don't do that as much!
But as an honest opinion of that last shirt, Bettye? I really think it looks incredible on you. Sure, it may not be what you're used to (that's why you think it's too much), but it's you in a nutshell. Colorful, fun and beautiful. (okay, I get that it's too small...but if you can get it in a bigger size, I bet you'd be surprised at how many compliments you get on it).
XOXO

DeleteI love the shirt, I think I could pull it off as well, with this little frill on each side it for sure covers all the spots I'm sensitive about. The (sort of salmon-peach color) suits you perfectly, it brings out the color of your cheeks. You look stylish, chic and adorable in the same time. Each time I see your post with those heels I mention how I love them, so I'm not going to mentiond these today. The thing on the purse with a bow is a nice touch.
